Bonhams Print & Web

Automobila Art and design package

Client: Cars Auto department

Sector: Autoworld Scottsdale

My Role: Strategist & design

Project Time: 12 weeks

Background

Bonhams Cars online is platform that helps clients navigate the car market, by providing vehicle information, sales updates and technical guidance, broadcasting all live auctions and providing promotion for events.

This was a project supporting the 2023 quail auction in Santa Barbra highlighting the 1967 Ferrari 412P Berlinetta for sale. Focusing on phases of production design, I was the project manager of los angles design, working in a PMO of 6. We had a 12 week turnaround with promotion, book design and web.

Project initiation

After gathering the findings from the research, I worked with the team to define the problem statement.

Determine the problem.

How do we photograph and implement over 80 vehicles in 12 weeks for the auction in August? We associated the strategy of a work breakdown structure. Categorizing which tech could help on which day, coordinating with specialists on transport of vehicles to the studio and managing a task analysis to derive which, size, shape and car/motorcycle could be utilized on which day.

Corresponding with a cost benefits analysis, we considered which items we would need to best capture the vehicles. Backdrops for post edit and lighting for each situation. Capturing the shapes of the vehicle.

Project planning

In lue with stakeholders we planned out milestones and delivery on hard deadlines.

A kick off meeting was held and we went to it. As art direction commenced I with the vice president and senior specialist of automotive to stage what each vehicle could look like for the catalogue. We developed a budget and process plan, highlight certain lots like the 1967 Ferrari 412P Berlinetta and the Aston Martin. Capturing their photo’s for marketing on the site.

Delegation of the Indian racer went to me. Leading a team of 3 technicians along our CPM.

Project execution

As a product, we want to craft ourselves as a leading auction platform with 2 key focus areas:

  • Book creation: We want to help clients achieve their potential of fulfilling their buying experience by providing them with an in person catalogue to have the ability to cars/motorcycles before and during the auction.

  • Site optimization: We want to provide individuals with buying accessibility live in order to achieve their goal of instant interaction between the dealer and tracking items.

I was responsible for rebuilding out the auction buying experience.

I used Invision to allow the engineers to inspect the HTML and CSS of the designs. The team used Glitch to develop the application and the app was built using React. It is accessible via the web and on native iOS app.

We would hold weekly team meetings between cataloging & design to report progress giving us space for execution.

Project performance & monitoring

We had a debrief as a team of the team the sales numbers. Monitoring performance response times, load times and memory utilization. Since the implementation of the new rebuild , we have seen a significant increase in the access of bidders to the app. Additionally, I have received positive feedback about the simplified configuration of their bidding process, saving them a large proportion of their time.

  • Project close : Following through with asset management and categorization in the hubs database hand offs of layouts were made.

  • Some key takeaways from this project are : Create a strategic plan and user testing doesn't end after development. Involving stakeholders early helps bring the product vision to life.
